To describe the level on our longer tours we use a 5-point scale from Very easy-Very challenging. But what does the different levels difficulty mean in reality?

For us it is important that you find a tour that suits you.

  • Start by finding the level or levels that match your experience level and physical condition.
  • Look at the different options available and read the specific requirements for those tours.
  • If you are still unsure, please contact us and we’ll help you.

Very easy

On our very easy tours you don’t need any prior experience. We stay in hotels or hostels and go on day trips from the accommodation. To be able to participate in all activities you have to be able to walk shorter distances on uneven terrain and have full mobility. Please send us an email if you have questions.

Easy

We’ll stay in cabins with simpler standard and single nights in mountain lodges with hostel standards. You should have a decent condition and balance so that you can hike/ski for several hours per day. Maybe you take regular longer walks and go to the gym/group training once a week. We also want you to have earlier experience from day hikes (hiking tours) or day tours on skis (ski tours). On the tour you’ll be carrying a lighter backpack of about 10 kg with food for a couple of days, safety equipment and what you’ll need for the night staying in cabins. If we are out for a longer time our support crew will organize food depots along the way.

Intermediate

We stay in cabins with a simpler standard and single nights in mountain lodges/hostels. You should be in good condition so that you can be out all day in the mountains. Maybe you run or go to group training 1-2 times a week, or have an active lifestyle where you cycle to work and go for longer hikes during weekends. We also want you to have earlier experience from more demanding day hikes (hiking tours) or day tours on skis (ski tours). On the tour you’ll be carrying a backpack of around 12-15kg with your personal equipment, safety equipment and food for 2-4 days.

Challenging

We’ll stay in mountain huts with a simpler standard in wintertime and in tents in summer. You should be in good condition so that you can be outside for long days in the mountains with a heavier backpack/pulka. You should do some kind of cardio training regularly and be used to being out in nature, preferably in the mountains. We recommend that you have earlier experience of easier multi-day tour on foot (hiking tours) and on skis (ski tours). On the tour you’ll be carrying a backpack of around 15-20 kg or pull a pulka of around 30 kg.

Very difficult

We’ll stay in tents and single nights in a mountain hut/hostel. You should be in very good condition so that you can be outside for long days in the mountains with a heavier backpack/pulka and still have the energy to build camp in the evening. You should do some kind of cardio training regularly and be used to being out in nature, preferably in the mountains. Earlier experience of backcountry camping is a plus and sometimes a requirement. We want you to have earlier experience from multi-day tours by foot (hiking tours) or on skis (ski tours). On the tour, you’ll be carrying a heavier backpack of up to 20+ kg or pull a pulka of 30-40 kg.
